Im a Vegas local but wont be able to stay for the entire festivities of DefCon this year because of work. I own a copy of "Art of Intrusion" which Id like to have Kevin sign but I cant justify $80 to be there for just 5 minutes then have to go to work. Can I just attend the booksigning, maybe buy a shirt or two without having to pay the $80?

Buying stuff and spending money has nothing to do with anything. In order to remain on hotel premesis, you must have a badge. In order to obtain a badge, you must register.. cost of $80. This is done to prevent locals and troublemakers from disturbing the conference and its attendees.
It may be possible to sneak into the signing, depending on its location, and sneak out without getting a badge. I do not recommend this though, because there is an 80% chance of incurring the wrath of defcon security.. not exactly friendly rent-a-cops.
Now, you could also try to catch one of the smiling goons from outside the AP, plead your case, give them beer or case, and they may have mercy on your soul... aka.. walk you into the signing. If this occurs, feel safe at the signing, but do not assume that gets you into the Alexis grounds with safety.. that would involved defcon security blah blah.. you get the idea.if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free. -
I think Im too late, it says that the signing was at 12:00-12:50...

You don't have to stay on grounds 24x7x3 to get your $80 worth of defcon... and it happens every year. It's like catching renderman on stage at a Rush concert for $5 .. very difficult to pass up.if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.Comment
