    Proposal: Quake 3 Tournament

Is anybody is interested in having a small tournament on the side and possibly some prizes if I can have enough participants join in. The only mod that would be considered would be Rocket Arena 3 (Punk buster enforced) :)

:raise hand: if you are interested.

Maybe if this wasn't a "hacker convention". I think you should save the Quake Tournie for the next LAN Party.

We already have our own tournament of sorts, and it's our favorite LAN game... r00t-Fu!

That is true, I should have been more specific, I was thinking around later in the night after peak times for the people who arent old enough to drink. Just a thought to occupy the kiddies.

Suprisingly I am not trying to start a fight with you in this thread, just play devils advocate. However, if you want to run something like this then go for it! Setup a LAN in your room and get your Fragging on. But ya know what? Most people can play quake 360 some days a year, Defcon only comes around for 3 (a few more for the truly dedicated). It's not a bad idea in general, it's just not the best idea in relation to things probably do at Defcon. And you did hi-lite on a good point. If you setup anywhere outside your room, and are not careful with how you do everything, either A) Some drunk people will come over and mess up your game, or B) Someone will 0wn your game.

Post don't get deleted here, they stay around forever to haunt you.

i didn't fly a couple hundred miles, pay for a hotel room and pay $80 for admission to play a stupid game that I can play at the local gaming cafe anytime I want to.

Defcon: it's all about booze, mayhem and maybe learning something about computers.

Your reply is completely contradictive, you can do any of those you things you mentioned without having to go to defcon. If you are going to supply a reason for your flame please make it a valid/creative one.

While it is true you can do any of these things individually (sometimes somewhat combined), Jessie is absolutely right in that you can only do them all simultaneously whilst in Vegas (surrounded by people who know how to do it better) at Defcon.

Out of 4 cons I took a computer twice, and it was on a total of 30 minutes. If your computer is cool enough to wear, or fits in a suitcase or pizza box, go for it, but it may turn out to be more of a burden than a blessing.

this isn't the first year the topic has come up.. and this isn't the last year most shoot it down as lame. many people chill at tables the entire weekend and pickup lan gaming is probably pretty easy amongst the crowd... but seriously.. this is defcon, you can lan party anywhere.. this is defcon.

I am all for the idea of putting a Quake 3 tourney on the root-fu network... now that could be interesting.. at awards, "Yeah, our team pwnd most of the the lan party segment and used it to DoS the poll server while in between scoring against the other teams"
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Interesting, it kinda adds another challenge to the event. Kinda like the other side events they had in years previous.

Call me an extremely cocky dick from a nation where the legal drinking age is 18-19 and underaged drinking is not enforced; fuck that. It's DC. It's Vegas. I'm drinking. You should too.
