What is the presenting file format ?

    Hi

I am making my slides in PPTX format but the submitting details says to send an pdf.

I understand that the slide sharing after the talk is in .pdf format, but is the talk presentation only with .pdf or can it be .pptx ?

I do not work speaker selection. The best choice for this would be to email "talks @ defcon . org" (remove spaces in the quoted string to see email address.) Ask the people that review papers about this to confirm you can present in PPT. Once you get an authoritative answer, please follow-up here.

Note: This is the most important section on the application. You must provide a detailed outline containing the main points and navigation through your talk - show how you intend to begin, where you intend to lead the audience and how you plan to get there. Your outline should be in simple text. Please do not submit slides, Docs, or PDFs as an outline. If you are submitting a panel, it’s encouraged to list what each panel member will contribute to on the outline, as well as the estimated time budgeted for those bullet points. The review board likes submissions that include references to prior works and research you used in developing your presentation. The more detailed your outline then the better we are able to review your presentation against other submissions (and the higher chance you have of being accepted).

    3) I understand if I fail to submit a completed PDF presentation by July 15, 2024, I may be replaced by an alternate presentation or may forfeit my honorarium. This decision will be made by DEF CON and I will be informed in writing of my status.

(underline/bold added by me to highlight segments.)

From these selected quotes on the content from the given URL1, it appears that when you *submit* your paper for consideration, it is limited to a plain-text outline, and a PDF or "doc" (which implies MS word, or Libre Office Writer, etc which can make *.doc format "text" files.)

It also mentions not submitting slides, which seems to indicate no ppt for this step in content emailed to talk @ defcon . org

This would *only* be for the paper review process for the main tracks. If your talk is *accepted* then carrying a PPT to the actual presentation would make sense, so that your actual presentation uses something with slides instead of scrolling through a "*.doc" or "*.pdf" file on screen.

Converting any PPT or other slides to PDF for download from https://m6rqq6kocsyugo2laitup5nn32bwm3lh677chuodjfmggczoafzwfcad.onion.jump.black/ makes sense in making slides readable by many more devices than *.ppt, but presenting on stage with a PDF seems silly.

I am not speaking/typing for the talks department. I write what I have observed in the past: people presented on stage with PPT presentations.
